Re: High scores not saving

Thank you for taking the time to be more specific. I honestly do not know if these games/machines supported highscore saving on the original hardware (and therefore in MAME), and I see no quick way of finding out, so perhaps someone else can answer that. (The only thing I can say, is that most of th...

Mame lists a pacman version as puckman.
Actually if I recall correctly, 'Puckman' by Namco is the original (and came first), and then they licensed the property to Midway which then released 'Pacman' (which therefore is correctly listed as a 'clone' of Puckman in MAME).

Re: High scores not saving

It appears none of the new version high scores save. Could you name at least one specific game (and preferably a few), that is supposed to save the high score according to you - and preferably additionally did so as far as you can remember in an older MAME version - but does not save the highscore ...

Re: What are people using for unusual controllers?

I'm not sure if this counts as 'unusual' or not, but I have an X-Arcade Tankstick [1], which includes a trackball (and two regular sticks plus buttons). And although I don't own them, over at ultimarc they seem to sell a (USB) lightgun [2], and spinners [3] meant for use when building your own cabin...

Re: High scores not saving

To clarify things a bit, do you mean : 1.) That a specific game that used to save the highscores in an older MAME version, no longer saves the highscore in version 0.186 for that exact same game ? If so, I would personally consider that a bug and/or regression for that game. (Also, could you name th...

Re: Prototype Puckman board?

I'm not sure, but it looks like a bootleg of the original 'puckman' [1], possibly this one [2] or similar ?

Re: [0.189] Hi Score Support

Whether a game supports high score saving ('by default') or not depends on whether the original hardware supports it after power down (and internally saves it somewhere in non-volatile ram/storage). Because every time you 'start/stop' a game in MAME, you are really powering up/down the entire machin...

Re: Mame 3d Lag

I didn't expect you to get the original hardware: I just meant that doing a comparison with that - for the sound - is probably the only way to be sure. Most of the video's on YouTube for example, are of the game running in an emulator (probably MAME), so that is not really all that helpful. Having s...

Re: Mame 3d Lag

I listened to the game on my PC, and to me personally the sound is not that bad ? But the game is known to not run correctly, because of imperfect emulation (although imperfect graphics is mentioned, and not imperfect sound) and needed rom dumps. There is nothing you can do about that, apart from ho...

Re: Hardware - Different setups

Side note: The most demanding game I have personally come across to date is 'Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth' (1998, Hudson / Seta). That game is completely unplayable (due to speed) for me on my current hardware.

mame64.exe starsldr -nothrottle -str 60 -video d3d
Average speed: 44.40% (59 seconds)
