Old version of MAME in Linux Mint

Hi!,
I've just installed MAME on my Mint pc using the official repository and it is the 160 version.
I already have a lot of roms for the 078 version.
I would like to use Attract mode but a lot of roms don't work with the mame executable, instead, using emulation station with mame2003 they work correctly.
So, i was wondering, is it possible to have a standalone version of MAME 078 for linux? (even compile it can be good)

Else, to convert my roms from 078 to 160, is enough to use clrmamepro and rebuild them with the correct DAT file or to do it I have to download some extra files for roms? And which option I have to choose from merge, split ec ecc ?

thank you so much!

Re: Old version of MAME in Linux Mint

I highly suggest using the latest version as possible. MAME 0.180 was released just a few weeks ago.
