Hi, it only happened in the last update as they've used different protection for the game

If you copy the default.cfg file from your previous one, it will retain the settings of the keys. NB, you must run Mame and a game first before you do this! What I would say is that you could download Mame and try the games first (maybe just download the one you want to try - and then delete it afterwards due to copyright (cough cough)). I have an old PC (HP 6000 SFF) and that runs older versions of Mame games...

I use the Mame exe file and when I run it, there's an option to filter by manufacturer (on the left hand side).

Not sure if this would help but thought I'd let you know, just in case.
