Re: looking for tutorial on roms programming

Hi, I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for exactly (I can't really tell what it is you're looking for by reading your post), but The Internet Wayback Machine Archive has an archive of a (now dead) website called "Let's Hack Arcade Games" that has quite a few tutorials on how to go about us...

Re: Frustrated and losing heart

Hi, although I personally cannot provide discord/voice/chat to investigate, but in general and for this forum it might provide useful if you could : State what MAME version and variant (official MAME, MAMEUI, etc) you are using, on what platform (and version) you are running MAME (Windows, Linux, Ma...

Re: Defender emulation lag

Hi, Even though I'm certainly no expert on this matter here, you do seem to know what you're talking about. However, this is the official MAME forum for the official MAME version, and you have stated that you use Groovymame. I ass-u-me that the most people around here would prefer it if you could re...

Re: Flickering in Galaxy game (1971)

You need to enable 'hlsl' before the 'phosphor persistence' (blue, green, red) options become available in the MAME internal menu. (Also, you need to have d3d video enabled [the default on Windows as far as I know] because hlsl only works with d3d and not with opengl/etc.). I don't know how to enabl...

Re: Flickering in Galaxy game (1971)

Hi, I think these are the settings you are looking for ? On the commandline, or in your mame.ini, enable hlsl (hlsl_enable), use video d3d, and set 'phosphor_life' to something (for example, '-phosphor_life 0.6500000,0.6500000,0.6500000'), so you would for example have a commandline looking somewhat...

Re: How do I determine what MAME version I have?

Hi, By reading your post, I guess you mean 'how do I determine what MAME.exe version goes with the romset I currently have', and not 'what MAME version is the mame.exe binary I currently have' ? I don't think there is any way to determine that, your best bet is probably by going to the place where y...

Re: Bug with San Francisco Rush (boot rom L 1.0)

If you say sfrush is not working, then what's this? sfrushworking.png 'sfrushrk' (San Francisco Rush: The Rock), not 'sfrush' (San Francisco Rush). Rush the Rock(sfrushrk) works fine in the latest version of MAME(0.193) thanks to a guy named Ted Green. sfrushrkworking.png Ah. Thanks for pointing th...

Re: Bug with San Francisco Rush (boot rom L 1.0)

Hi, this game used to work fine but now sometimes it doesn't seem to get past the menus and other times it works, Ever since Ted Green fixed San Francisco Rush: The Rock (boot rom L 1.0, GUTS Oct 6 1997 / MAIN Oct 16 1997) This game/machine is marked as 'not working'. Emulation is known to not be a...

On 'highscore.dat'

Hi, I seem to be confused about what 'hiscore.dat' (and enabling it through MAME's interface 'Plugins' -> 'High Scores' 'ON') actually does, 'under the cover'. My presumed knowledge so far (and please do correct me if I'm wrong here, I've come here to learn), in random order : 1.) If the original ha...
