'Twas The Night Before MAME - 2018 Edition

'Twas The Night Before MAME or: A Visit From St. Nicola (Mickola?) by Stiletto --------------------------- 'Twas the night before a MAME upload, and all through the list; Not a member was posting, not even Mish! The sourcecode was sent to Github with care, In hopes that St. Nicola soon would be ther...

Re: wolfmame help needed

http://forums.marpirc.net might be a better location in the future for asking for assistance with compiling WolfMAME (at least until the WolfMAME Github has an Issues section). Fortunately, mahlemiut (WolfMAME dev) is also a MAME developer and saw this.

Re: about docs

In the current release of MAME (MAME 0.194), the only offline docs provided with MAME Windows _binaries_ are MAN files and the contents of the SWLIST folder. For MAME Windows builds we're currently recommending to visit http://docs.mamedev.org OR download the MAME source and create offline help usin...

Re: Who is Gregory Ember? MAME trademark was sold?

Don't worry - It's me. As an organizational topic, the United States registered trademark for the term "MAME" was renewed by the MAME team for another ten years. It was due in late 2015 but it didn't get done until early 2017. Since the MAME team isn't actually incorporated as a non-profit...

¡Hola! こんにちは。 Здраво!

http://mamedev.org/?p=446 We know we let MAME’s translation files rot for almost a year, and for that we’re truly sorry (the technical reason is lack of C++14 support in GNU xgettext ), but we’ll be in much better shape on this front for our next release (0.189 scheduled for 30 August). The Chinese,...

Re: Mame and Laser disk chds

Games that use laserdisc CHDs are supported by MAME. The following games that use laserdisc technology are fully supported (and CHDs exist for them): cliffhgr - Cliff Hanger (Stern Electronics, 1983) cobra - Cobra Command (Thunder Storm) (Data East, 1984) cubeqst - Cube Quest (Simutrek, 1983) esh - ...

Re: [Q] Externally modular vs internally?

It's not just that, it's that our end users would probably update "plugins" but not "the core", or vice-versa. We'd need versioning to enforce compatibility. Error reports would increase tremendously because users would try using newer "cores" with older "plugins&q...

Re: [Q] Externally modular vs internally?

Shortly after I first joined MAMEdev eons ago (2000), a newcomer to the team privately submitted a proof-of-concept idea for rearchitecting MAME so that it could be "plugins" based as you have generally described. His proposal was soundly rejected by the project's founder, Nicola Salmoria,...

Re: Twenty Years of MAME

http://mamedev.org/?p=439 Today marks the twentieth anniversary of the very first MAME release. We’d like to thank each and every one of you who’ve contributed to making MAME what it is today. When we prepared a list of credited contributors for MAME’s tenth anniversary, it came to just over 500 nam...
