Controllers not working in Mame 0.221B

MAME does not recognize any game pad. I had a Sega style pad and an X-Box One controller connected. Both worked fine in MAME. I unplugged the Sega type controller and now the X-Box One controller does not recognize at all. I Plugged the Sega one back in and it also does not recognize. Now I have no game pad working at all. Only the keyboard and mouse. I was using the newest version 0.221B and I also did a fresh install into a new directory and same problem.

I was reading a recent Windows 10 update had an issue with printers I wonder if that update also messed up the controllers. In the control panel of windows the controllers show and all direction and buttons work correctly it is just in MAME they are not recognized at all.

I hope someone knows of a setting that can get this working. I just bought an expensive fighting stick (Has not arrived yet) and I am worried that MAME will not recognize it either.

Is it possible a setting needs to be put in to recognize multiple controllers like there is for multiple keyboards? I looked in the cfg files and I do not see an option.

I found the problem.

Under joystickprovider in the mame.ini I changed from auto to dinput and it is now working.

Glad you were able to figure it out. Automatic/default settings are usually chosen to work for the most machines without need to adjust.
