HLSL / i3-6300 Intel HD 530 GPU / Mame .173

Not sure if this is the best place to post this or not, but I thought I would try. I went from having mame .173 running on a AMD 1090t with a R7950 GPU to a machine that has an i3-6300 using the intigrated Intel HD 530 GPU. This was not a fresh install; I copied over the folders since it was already configured.

After doing this I can no longer get HLSL to work. I have done some research and can't find anything that states it is unsupported. Any help would be awesome. I would also consider using GLSL (I haven't tried) I just had an ini for HLSL that I was using (found on a message board)

You'll want to use the latest release which is 0.175 at the time of this writing ---> http://mamedev.org/release.html

Extract it into an empty folder, open command prompt and execute mame64 -cc

The latest release has performance increases over previous old releases which will benefit your integrated GPU. There's also presets in the ini folder so it's not necessary to worry about old outdated ini files.

okay, so I have an xarcade set in the mame.ini and the raster.ini file I was using had custom settings in it. Could I reuse the INI or is this something I should just start from scratch on?

Also do I worry about updating my roms from 173 to 175?

If you're referring to X-Arcade.cfg that resides in the cfg directory, then this file can be safely copied over as it hasn't been changed or updated in a very long time AFAIK.

HLSL files and ini settings are a bit trickier because they have and can frequently change from version to version.
You could attempt to reuse the old settings to see if you get the same desired result. If not, then there's the option of making changes with the sliders in real-time then writing those down and applying them to other ini files.

It's generally a good idea to update roms if possible.

okay so i downloaded 175 and nothing has changed with hlsl. it still isn't working. the game loads but but not with hlsl. I have enabled it in the video settings. The slider controls don't show any hlsl settings to change either.

HLSL requires video mode to be d3d and here's some documentation on it --> http://docs.mamedev.org/advanced/hlsl.html

I'm also wondering if DirectX is installed on your Intel rig as it's required to do that in order for HLSL to function --> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... g=en&id=35

The DirectX 9.0c redist package (approx 95MB ) is supposedly more complete than the web installer...

B2K24: I did try manually enabling both OpenGL w/ GLSL and D3D w/ HLSL. I did run DXDIAG so I would think Direct X is installed. I was able to confirm I have PS5.1 I think it was in the Intel drivers that it said that.

krick: I can try and download that package when I get home and see what happens.

BTOTH: I am running windows 10; not sure if that helps/matters. My test machine was windows 7 but it was also my gaming rig so it had all the extra BS on it.

Thank you guys. I was able to get it to work by installing the DirectX 9C. Not sure why it didn't work before because I know DirectX was installed but maybe not all of it was; either way works now thank you, thank you !
