[0.220] Filters

Hi All

By default, Mame lists all games by "Unfiltered" rather than "Available". For arcade games, this can be changed and the settings are saved. However, for consoles (i.e 2600 or Lynx), this change isn't saved and has to be set each time. Is there an option somewhere to set this for each console?

:)

You may want a to use "Favorites" as an option for consoles as some even don't even have roms to be audit so may not even show up if you chose to hide romless machines in settings. If you are intent on making a filter, there is a collection of "category.ini" files here that may or may not have the entries you want.

Thanks for your reply :). I think I may not have explained myself well enough  .

I have a second logon, which only shows consoles. These being Atari 2600, Lynx and Gameboy. When I select each of these, their games are unfiltered (showing every game available). I would like to be able to list by available only.

Currently, I am having to edit each console's XML file to show only the games that I own. Just wondering whether there was an "easier" way of doing this or something that I missed.

Yeah, I did misread it. Apologies.

As far as I am aware, there is no way to have the UI only show "Available" detected software for various machines that use those softlists. Its only display option, currently, is allow it to show all entries that are accessible to that machine. Perhaps this could change in the future - but for now that is the Internal UI limitation. You can, however, add to Favorites any software you may have from the list which will show up in your Favorites selection (just tested with a few atari 2600 games). Just start MAME, choose the console and the screen should show a list of software selections. Use the orange STAR icon at the top center of the screen to add this to your Favorites. Favorites can include anything and will (should) load the proper machine for the selection saved.

Shame as I don't think this would be to difficult to implement (already setup for arcade). Unfortunately when using favourites, all games are listed in one group rather than each console. The only other way I got around this was to rename the xml file, which then prompted a "file manager" type interface for browsing to a particular game. I would use Retroarch for consoles but you have to keep loading the software each time you quit a game . For now, I'll keep editing the xml files.
