Synchronizations in Mame

Hi folks,
i yet installed mame 0251. Before that, i used to gamble with winmame (which normally contains an older mame-Version).
I have still some (less) problems with synchronisation.
I aim to learn a little bit more about the belonging options.
Are there some good starting points for research?
It would be nice, if i could write a pseudo algorithm after consulting that dokumentation.
