Use custom files on SGI indy_4610 (or other)

Hello everyone,
I used MAME to set up an SGI Indy_4610 machine with IRIX 5.3 installed.
I was wondering, would it be possible to somehow make custom files in my laptop visible from the emulator?
For example, suppose I have a file test.txt in my laptop; how can I pass it to MAME in such a way I could open it from the SGI emulator terminal?
I was not able to understand it from the documentation, even if I understand MAME was not developed for this kind of usage.
