Coleco Adam Not Working

Is it a known issue that the Adam emulation is not working, or am I doing something wrong? I have the correct bios files in the roms folder. I have double checked them against their sha1 hash and they match. I have also checked the roms I am trying to load, namely Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. I have checked the hash of both the DDP and the DSK rom and neither one will load. through the UI it says the bios or rom is missing. Just not sure if I am doing something wrong or if there is actually a problem with this system.

Thanks.

When I try to run this ('mame.exe adam') , I get the following warning screen :

You should have gotten that as well. It tells you that there are known issues (specifically, wp_r80.rom ROM NEEDS REDUMP), and it is not expected to run correctly at this point.

Re: Coleco Adam Not Working

Yes I did get that message but that has been like that for almost 10 years or at least since MESS and Mame merged. Adam Archive has other versions of that rom available but of course they don't match the hash for it so they are useless. Plus I saw somewhere that it needed to be two spit into an 8 and 16k file. Seems like it would be possible to get someone to re dump that rom if that is the case or try one of the others on Adam Archive.

Thanks for answering my question though. I wondered if that was the issue and now that I know I can quit wasting time trying to get it to work.

So why are you asking then, when you already knew the answer ?

If an actual (still working) machine does not surface and gets in the hands of the right people, then it won't get a new dump. This is true regardless of how long things have been this way.

When it is unknown if these dumps are correct or not, then it would be pointless to try to use them for MAME. It takes a lot of skill to get a correct (and verified) dump. You cannot just use a random file of unknown origin and quality that some random stranger has dumped on the internet.

True. But again, an actual (still working) machine has to end up in the right hands to make that happen, it is not trivial at all.

And you can also quit wasting other people's time with asking questions you already know the answer to.

Re: Coleco Adam Not Working

Well it would be nice it if trickled down and was included in the readme.txt that tells which are working and non working systems. Right now over at Arcade Database it is reported that all is good with Mame and the Adam as of 6/30/2025. The reason I asked is I would like to stop wasting my time trying to get a system to work that everyone says works and I'm left wondering what I am doing wrong. Seeing how you want to be a shithead about I can see why it is still broken and likely will remain broken because no one will want to work with an ass.

Moderators, you can suspend this account because I don't plan on coming back.

Re: Coleco Adam Not Working

I just tried the cassette versions of those games and they work fine. The cartridge versions from the coleco list don't work though.
