GENERIC ARTWORK GENERATOR by retrorom-4k :
Many ROMs do not have dedicated artwork so this file can fix this by making a link to my generic artwork zip. DO NOT FORGET TO SELECT VERTICAL or HORIZONTAL bezel in MAME VIDEO options the first time you run the ROM : HORIZONTAL bezel is set by default.
USE:
1- MANUAL METHOD (for very few files) : rename retrorom-4k-generic-artwork.zip the EXACT same name of the rom you want, copy this zip in MAME\ARTWORK\
2- AUTOMATIC SCRIPT (for mass files) :
IMPORTANT: TO MAKE THIS AUTOMATIC SCRIPT WORK, YOUR MAIN DIRECTORY MUST BE "MAME" SO IF THIS IS NOT THE CASE (like "HBMAME") THEN YOU MUST OPEN AND EDIT MY 2 BAT FILES BY RENAMING 2 LINES INSIDE, AND REPLACE
\MAME\artwork\retrorom-4k-generic-artwork.zip"
WITH
\HBMAME\artwork\retrorom-4k-generic-artwork.zip"
a) copy "retrorom-4k-generic-artwork.zip" as is (DO NOT RENAME IT!) in MAME\ARTWORK
b) inside "
retrorom-4k-generic-artwork.zip" extract and copy the script called "
generic_artwork_generator_for_ROMS_FOLDER.bat" in MAME\ROMS\ then run it with ADMIN rights (do right mouse click on it then RUN AS ADMIN), when script is finished close window then go to your MAME\ARTWORK directory and you will see that the script has created 0kb symbolic links for all ROMs missing artworks pointing to retrorom-4k-generic-artwork.zip
c) if you have subfolders inside MAME\ROMS\ like MAME\ROMS\NEOGEO then you need to copy "
generic_artwork_generator_for_ROMS_SUBFOLDER.bat" inside any subfolder like MAME\ROMS\NEOGEO and run it as ADMIN like b)
then run mame, run a rom which did not have dedicated artwork before, hit TAB key then select VIDEO>SCREEN#0 and finally choose the artwork you want HORIZONTAL or VERTICAL with or without dirt glass or scanlines, hit ENTER to activate selected artwork then ESC. If screen is not resized correctly after changing artwork option then ESC to return to MAME roms list and re-run the rom, this time artwork will be correct.
Now preview of my 4k artwork :
I have used NASA ArtemisII pictures, room background is my usual Frisco National Videogame Museum (nvmusa.org), and default MAME logo. Both horizontal and vertical bezels are included plus my usual crop view and scanlines options.
