there is a way to know whice version of mame games belongs ?
lets say i have "1941" in a zip file. there is a way to know if its for mame0139 or mame 201 or mame 078b ?

Just make sure the .ZIP is in your rompath and invoke the version of MAME via a command window that you want to check (using shortname) and it will see if it is valid. For instance:

mame -verifyroms 1941
